Senior Flight Test Engineer [UK]
Strativ are working with a defense technology company with a mission to transform military capabilities with advanced technology, they are looking for a Flight Test Engineer to join their team.
As a Senior Flight Test Engineer you will have responsibility for the planning, execution and reporting of developmental and operational flight test and evaluation activities. You will work alongside a team of engineers and test specialists assisting in the wider management and coordination of test and evaluation within the UK, US and Europe under both civil and military approval schemes.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
* As a Senior Flight Test Engineer under minimal supervision, you will determine and develop various approaches to achieve T&E goals and help guide and perform the completion of test activities.
* This position will focus heavily on new aircraft development, with an emphasis in electronics, avionics, propulsion, flight characteristics, rugged design, and quality at scale.
* Test duties include system and sub-system level T&E of hardware and software. As part of this process you will support or lead in test planning, establishing test measures of success, test conducting (ground and flight), analyzing test performance, and driving process improvement/development.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* A bachelor's degree or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and 5+ years flight test engineering experience.
* Previous expertise and working knowledge of UAS operating rules and regulations in the UK.
* Knowledge of EO/IR/Lidar sensor payloads and the intricacies required to plan and execute tests.
* Knowledge of fly by wire control systems, flight dynamics and handling qualities of small, medium and/or large UAS; with emphasis on development and testing new systems.
* Must have a complete understanding of and passion for engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expansive knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
* Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
* Must have strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas.
* Able to work extended hours as required.
* Ability to travel 25-50% of the time.
* Valid driver's license.
* Ability to obtain a UK Security Check (SC) clearance or higher.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Class B / Cat 2 Flight Test Engineer graduate of a recognised Test Pilot School.
* Previous experience conducting Stores Release & Jettison and live firing stores trials.
* Experience managing and developing teams in aviation environments.
* Experience within developmental and operational test & evaluation organizations.
* Ability to get and maintain a GVC (multi-rotor and fixed-wing).
* Basic conversational German speaker.
