Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools - Teaching Assistant
Enrolling on this course will enable you to successfully support the learning and development of both Primary and Secondary school children. You may be working in a one-to-one capacity or supporting groups of children, while working with a teacher in the classroom. You will gain insight into the planning and delivery of curriculum requirements and skills to support the social and emotional development of children.
There will be opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge, including effective communication skills when working with children and young people. You will learn about child and young persons’ development and how to support children who may have special educational needs and/or disabilities. Additionally, you will learn about improving your own and team practice in schools and maintaining relationships with children and young people while safeguarding their welfare.

Entry Requirements
Delegates must hold a current DBS, a good standard of English and Maths, and be in a voluntary work placement in a school for at least 12 hours per week. You must also be able to carry out the duties of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant. As part of the interview process, you will take an initial assessment for Maths and English and complete a short written assessment.
Assessment
Like all vocational qualifications, the Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualifications are competence-based. Candidates will attend college to develop the essential knowledge, understanding, and skills for each unit. You will be assigned a Trainer Assessor who will visit you in your work placement to observe you, and you will build a portfolio of evidence.
On successful completion of this course, you may progress to an Advanced (Level 3) course or to an Apprenticeship. Other available courses include the Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and their Services, and the BA (Hons) in Children, Schools and Families.
