Background
We are seeking to recruit an outstanding Research Fellow with a background in mathematical biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, biophysics, or related fields to join our dynamic and highly interdisciplinary UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship project ‘Systems-Mechanobiology of Health and Disease’, led by Professor Fabian Spill. This seven-year project offers a unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions to understanding and combatting age-related diseases.
The goal of this highly collaborative project is to develop innovative, data-driven systems-biology models to explore how mechanical forces, cell shape, and the spatio-temporal organisation of molecules influence cell behaviour. Specifically, we aim to uncover how the mechanical and geometric properties of cells and tissues change during ageing, and how these changes drive the emergence of age-related diseases. By combining mathematical modelling, machine learning, and experimental insights, we will work closely with leading researchers and industry partners.
Our diverse team includes mathematicians, computer scientists, and physicists who work on a wide range of projects. For this role, we are particularly excited to welcome a candidate with experience in omics data, imaging data, or health data analysis, or in applying machine learning to mechanistic models. However, if you are passionate about developing innovative mathematical or computational approaches to tackle ageing and age-related diseases, we would love to hear from you.
The School of Mathematics provides a supportive and welcoming environment for staff to develop as both researchers and lecturers. We are proud of our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity, and we encourage applications from the widest possible community. We are dedicated to fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere where new ideas are welcomed, and where your career as a researcher will flourish.
Applicants are required to attach a covering letter and a CV, including details of three referees. In the covering letter, the applicants should briefly summarise their major achievements so far, what attracts them to the present position and how this position will help the applicants to achieve their career ambitions.
