Job Summary:
The Solar PV Operations and Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of solar photovoltaic plants. This role ensures that the plants operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. The manager will lead a team of engineers and administrators to maintain optimal performance and reliability of the solar installations. This individual will be capable of growing a business and developing a team to support that business.
Key Responsibilities:
* Build and grow a business within a business.
* Lead, recruit, retain and develop a team capable of delivery.
* Take lead in driving sales for the O&M department including contract management.
* Manage all aspects of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of solar arrays.
* Provide expert technical guidance for O&M activities across all sites.
* Generate, create and manage maintenance contracts.
* Coordinate with key stakeholders to ensure timely and effective maintenance and repairs.
* Ensure all designs, installations, testing, and documentation align with legal and quality requirements.
* Provide specialised input to support strategic decision-making.
* Coordinate and oversee staff, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Manage daily operations at facilities, following best practices and asset management protocols.
* Serve as the primary technical contact for operational sites, ensuring smooth communication and issue resolution.
* Serve as the project manager for special projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
* Maintain customer and partner relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and compliance with maintenance activities.
* Monitor the performance of solar and prioritise resources to address any issues impacting plant performance.
* Ensure full compliance with warranty and service obligations, including contract administration and site operations.
* Develop and implement best practices in operations and maintenance, driving continuous improvement and cost reduction.
* Interface regularly with key stakeholders to deliver enhanced customer satisfaction and reporting.
* Manage departmental invoicing and budgets, ensuring financial targets are met.
* Develop and grow the team and the customer base.
* Prepare monthly reports for the plants and send them to the client.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field preferred.
* Management and leadership qualifications or relevant experience.
* Excellent troubleshooting skills and technical expertise in solar plant commissioning, operations, and maintenance.
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience in solar energy operations and maintenance.
* Knowledge of PV and BESS plant equipment (central and string inverters, batteries, modules, skids, AC, DC, SCADA, etc.), current PV and BESS technologies, communications architecture, sensors and actuators for PV and BESS plant control.
* Knowledge of HV equipment (transformers, switchgear and protection systems).
* Proficiency in using data acquisition systems, SCADA software, and remote computing tools.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Full UK Driving License.
