Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to apply for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) position of Consultant in General Medicine and Medicine of the Elderly based at St Johns Hospital, Livingston in NHS Lothian.
The successful applicant will join a team of enthusiastic and motivated consultant physicians in a unit recognised for its innovation and passion for improvement. The unit has a strong emphasis on medical education and training as well as close links with the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, input from all the medical specialties, an established Frailty service, as well as an award-winning Hospital at Home team.
General Medicine duties will include On-call and unselected acute medical take 1:16 weekdays and 5 weekends per year. Medicine of the Elderly responsibilities will comprise the Acute Frailty ward, the Rehabilitation ward, and an outpatient clinic tailored to subspecialty interest may also be included.
This is a 10 PA post (9 DCC+1 Core SPA). Additional SPA may be available on discussion at job planning with the successful appointee. This new post is available as a result of University ACT funding with a defined purpose to deliver additional teaching to Undergraduate medical students within this Department. It would be expected that this additional teaching commitment would be shared amongst new and existing consultants within the Dept. Applicants with an interest and/or additional qualifications in Undergraduate teaching would be welcome.
