Data Protection Consultant
This is a great opportunity to join a strong privacy team that is undergoing a great deal of transformation, to be able to support Uniper's transformation. It is ideal for an experienced data protection expert who not only understands the law but has a great passion for building privacy programs, translating the law into action, with both local and central responsibilities. We are open to base location for the role from one of our Uniper UK locations.
Your responsibilities
* You will report to the Head of Data Protection, sitting in Germany. This role has both a local and central component.
* You will act as a DPO in the United Kingdom for UK entities, which includes all the statutory duties such as answering subject access requests, advising on UK-specific data protection issues, reviewing data protection agreements, and so on.
* Additionally, you will support the groupwide business (located in and outside the EU) in answering queries from the business, reviewing data processing activities, reviewing data protection agreements, devising employee training plans, and so on.
* You will also be a key component of the central team to draft and implement data protection processes and run projects to improve the Data Protection Management System.
Your profile
Essential
* Prior data protection related work, in-house or in a law firm is essential, such that the individual is able to independently and competently advise stakeholders on data protection issues in a pragmatic manner, and carry out other daily data protection tasks on their own.
* Data Protection Certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT or their equivalents from other certification bodies are mandatory.
* Knowledge of data protection laws including but not limited to the GDPR, such as UK Data Protection Act.
* Ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
* Ability to understand and envision privacy programs at a high level and transfer them to governance and processes.
* This role will require travel outside the United Kingdom. The selected candidate should be willing to do so a few times a year.
* Fluent in English.
Desirable
* Qualified Solicitors in England and Wales are strongly preferred. Candidates without legal qualifications but with extensive data protection experience and certifications will be considered.
* Prior in-house experience is an advantage.
* Prior experience with project and process management for Data Protection Management Systems is a great advantage.
* Ability to proactively identify areas of improvements in the DPMS and carry out improvement projects.
* Knowledge and interest of upcoming areas of the law in the EU, such as EU Data Act, EU AI act and so on.
* German (at least business fluency) is an advantage but not required.
