Location: Babraham Research Park, Cambridge Type: Full time, permanent Salary: Competitive / Hours: 40 per week Office based position Your role in our team The Health & Safety (H&S) Officer will play a pivotal role in promoting the well-being of employees and embedding a strong, proactive culture of safety at every level of the organisation. As the subject matter expert in health and safety, the role will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, identify and mitigate risks and implement proactive measures to maintain a safe and supportive working environment. By safeguarding individuals and embedding best practices, the H&S Officer will contribute to the organisation’s sustainability and overall success. Your key responsibilities will include: Be the subject matter expert in Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) management for the bit.bio site. Develop and implement companywide EHS strategies and programs to create a safe work environment and ensure regulatory compliance. Promote EHS best practices in operational safety and support to the various operational functions across site including Research, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Office operations. Maintain a safe working environment through inspection, regular audits and environmental monitoring to assess compliance. Oversee company compliance with safety and similar licensing legislation. Manage safety record keeping including incidents and accident reporting. Ensure that a safe system of work for activities with Biological Materials including all risk assessments and procedures are in place. Report and investigate incidents when they occur and ensure root causes are identified, mitigated and communicated. Partner with Facilities to ensure the site regulated waste management program is effective and compliant with HSE regulations. Co-ordinate and lead specific emergency response teams such as first aiders, fire wardens and spill team. Devise and deliver in-house safety training and co-ordinate and lead various safety committees. Partner with HR to manage the company occupational health provision and any actions resulting from consultations. Perform DSE assessments for both office and lab workstations. Maintain collaborative relationships with the landlord and campus service provider. You… Will have a minimum BSc in a relevant scientific field (or equivalent experience) and be certified in NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely or similar. Have proven experience of working within the Life Sciences industry in a dedicated Health & Safety advisory role reporting to and working with key stakeholders. Are skilled at collaboration, project management and leading through positive influence at all levels of an organisation to drive results. With essential experience in… Practical experience of working in a Health & Safety role within a CL2 laboratory setting. Demonstrable experience of working with Biological Materials and ensuring all risk assessments and procedures are in place. In depth knowledge of COSHH, especially with respect to biosafety. Proven experience of delivering successful in house training programmes. Proven ability to write and implement safety policy. Knowledge of fire safety and environmental legislation. Experience of performing DSE assessments for both office and lab workstations and implementing actions from occupational health consultations. Risk assessment expertise.
