The advertised salary includes a supplement (JWC) to the base grade of the post. JWC supplements are conditional on the physical demands and/or working conditions of the role.
About this opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic person to join our Private Sector Housing Team in the Thriving Communities Directorate. The post is offered as a permanent contract working full time (37 hours per week). The appointee will be involved in a variety of housing enforcement duties including Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) assessments and HMO licensing inspections, primarily in Penrith and the surrounding area. There will be an expectation to support colleagues dealing with housing standards complaints when service demands require it. Other duties include dealing with empty properties and assisting owners in bringing them back into use, as well as supporting energy efficiency initiatives in the private sector.
Who we are looking for:
Experience in an enforcement role within a local authority or similar is advantageous, along with qualifications or experience in environmental health, housing, construction, or surveying. You should be a team player who can organize your workload and is committed to providing high-quality customer service. Good written and oral communication skills and IT competence are essential. You must be able to travel efficiently around the borough for visits and meetings; a full UK driving licence and access to a car are advantageous. The ability to converse with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential.
