Working for #TeamNP
Our purpose at Team NP is simple: to keep people safe and to fight crime. But it takes more than officers alone to do the job – and that’s where our 2,000-strong team of police staff and 200 volunteers come in.
As one of the largest police forces in England, we have a huge variety of departments and specialisms offering you endless opportunities. From mentoring and coaching schemes and online soft skills courses to leadership development programmes; we’ll give you the support, training, and time to carve out the career you always wanted.
The Role
Our Business Services department is essential in providing support to Area Commands and departments across the force. We have a fantastic opportunity to join the team as an Evidential Property Administrator.
Are you ready to play a crucial role in supporting the operational work of Northumbria Police? We are looking for a dedicated individual to join the team in providing top-tier storage, retrieval, and disposal services for evidential property. This includes handling high-risk and high-value items such as drugs, cash, and firearms with the utmost care and precision.
As part of our team, you will be responsible for the daily review of the force’s evidential property system, making informed decisions about the retention or disposal of a wide variety of seized items. Your work will ensure compliance with Force policy, procedures, and legislation, maintaining the highest standards in everything we do.
What you’ll do:
* Property Management: Receive, store and maintain the integrity of seized property, ensuring accurate records and efficient retrieval.
* Audit and Transfers: Conduct daily audits, facilitate transfers to the main property store, and report missing items for investigation.
* Record Keeping: Maintain accurate computerised and paper-based records, respond to enquiries, and ensure customer satisfaction.
* Disposal and Income Generation: Arrange timely disposal of items via waste streams or returning to owner. Make informed disposal decisions, ensure compliance with legislation, and generate income through auctions.
* Specialist Storage: Handle and store high-risk items (e.g., firearms, drugs), follow strict policies, and support audit processes.
* Health and Safety: Sound understanding of Health and Safety guidelines for handling, storing and disposal of property.
What you’ll bring:
* Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Organisation: Excellent planning and organising skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
* Teamwork: Capable of working independently as well as part of a team, providing support and fostering a collaborative environment.
* Problem Solving: Able to use judgement, initiative and creativity to resolve issues and make informed decisions.
* Deadline-Orientated: Able to work to deadlines and support the team in achieving departmental goals.
We know it’s important for you to feel that you’re not only part of a great team but part of a community. We welcome applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
What we offer:
* 26 days’ leave (increasing to 30 days for 5 years+ service) plus 8 bank holidays
* Enhanced maternity, shared parental and adoption leave
* Fantastic market-leading public sector pension scheme with up to 16% employer contribution
