Main Duties of the Job
As a Staff Nurse on Danby Ward, you will be encouraged to become involved in the large multi-disciplinary team approach striving towards excellent patient care. You will be involved in formulation to discharge planning for patients on the ward as part of our dynamic team.
Each inpatient ward is fully equipped with activity and therapeutic spaces to enable patients to recover in a timely way so that they can be safely discharged back into their community with identified support packages.
About Us
Cross Lane is a purpose-built mental health hospital providing a range of services including 46 inpatient bedrooms with en-suite facilities for working age adults and older persons. Esk (female ward) and Danby (male ward) are both 13 bedded wards each.
The hospital has numerous vocational and therapeutic areas in a friendly, caring, and therapeutic environment. The site provides inpatient care on four wards - two wards for working age adults and one ward for older adults.
Job Responsibilities
We will support you by offering regular supervision, training opportunities, and encourage your development and role within this developing team on the delivery of Patient Centred Care, support for carers, and evidence-based practice. Newly qualified nurses will be offered a preceptorship package.
The successful applicant will be expected to work shifts covering 24/7 days and nights and public holidays.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD (RNSC - CAMHS only) - RGN (If appropriate - Advert must indicate if the role is open to RGN nurses to apply)
* To be recognised practice assessor/mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
* Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Experience
* Working with people with mental ill health.
* Working in a person-centred therapeutic organisation.
* Working in an inpatient environment.
* Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
* Working in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Working in partnership with other agencies.
Knowledge
* Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
* Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
* Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
* Research and development methodology.
* Awareness of psychological models of care and treatment.
Skills
* Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families, and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Manage own time and prioritise effectively.
* Evidence of team working.
* Use approved techniques in physical intervention (within agreed timescale).
* Competency in ECG and venepuncture.
* Presentation Skills.
