QC Chemist - Chemicals - North West - Permanent
Our client is a leading chemicals business specialising in solvent recovery and waste management. At present, they are looking for a QC Chemist to join their team at their North West site on a permanent basis. You will be part of a close-knit team working within a laboratory environment focusing on sampling and testing of incoming process streams and completing analytical testing of incoming materials and outgoing products.
Experience:
1. Degree in relevant/complimentary scientific subject i.e Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry.
2. Experience leading a small team is an advantage.
3. Working in an ISO or GMP/Certified laboratory is an advantage.
4. Working to tight deadlines.
5. GC-FID/MS experience is required (solvent purity analysis).
6. Experience in wet chemistry techniques (KF, pH, titration).
7. GC method development experience is a significant advantage.
8. Critical thinking and independent work ethic is essential.
9. Experience of troubleshooting and root cause analysis is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
1. Follow the company’s safe system of work policies and practices, including Laboratory Best Practice in combination with the relevant risk assessment, compliance with PPE policy, accident and near miss reporting, and housekeeping standards.
2. Conduct Laboratory Analysis on Crude, In-process and Dispatch samples.
3. Labeling of Samples as per WI/(phone number removed)(OS).
4. Identify storage vessels which need to be analysed, requesting samples via email, accepting samples in the laboratory using the incoming samples log – highlighting to the QC Manager when this is used incorrectly.
5. Analyze submitted samples, completing all stipulated tests as per relevant Chemical Specification Sheets.
6. Sampling of incoming crude loads as per WI/6.09.14(OS) – Sampling, Retention, Storage and Disposal.
7. Record results in relevant lab books and crudes in product out spreadsheet as per WI/6.09.15(OS).
8. Acceptance/Release of Material as per WI/6.09.16(OS).
9. Maintenance of Laboratory equipment when required.
10. Daily replenishment of laboratory supplies, changing of gas cylinders.
11. Complete weekly stock checks in the Laboratory area, assist in the ordering of laboratory supplies.
12. Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times, wearing correct PPE, maintaining high levels of housekeeping - keeping a clean and orderly environment.
13. Complete daily checks of the laboratory balances and LICO colorimeter as per the calibration schedule WI/(phone number removed)(OS).
14. Certify product dispatch notes confirming quality approval in accordance with the product specification.
