Job overview
Location: Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital
Are you ready for a new challenge? If so, this is an ideal opportunity for you to join our team.
This part-time Supervisors post is permanent and based in the Special feeds unit (SFU) within our Therapy and Dietetics department at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). Our SFU prepares approximately 80 feeds (420 bottles) a day of therapeutic feeds for the infants and children admitted to RMCH. The dietitians calculate the infant/child’s nutritional needs based on their clinical condition and age and translate this into a feed recipe.
The role of the SFU staff is to carefully follow the recipe to weigh out all the ingredients, then prepare and bottle the feed adhering to strict hygienic conditions. The feeds are then labelled, pasteurised and chilled before being sent to the wards. In the afternoons, you will be ensuring we have a clean and safe environment ready for the next day, preparing labels, doing stock checks, etc.
Main duties of the job
The supervisors' management duties include ordering and managing stock control, leadership and line management, rota co-ordination, time sheets, audit and data collection.
The unit is open every day of the year from 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays, 8 am to 12:30 at weekends and bank holidays. The SFU team (5 assistants and 2 part-time supervisors) each follow a fortnightly rota. The vacant supervisors post is for 50 hours a fortnight. Shifts will likely be 8 x 5-5.5 hr. (weekdays) and 2 x 4.5 hr. (alternate weekend) - usually you will work 10 days in a fortnight. Bank Holiday cover is needed.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a friendly food preparation environment to join our hardworking and flexible team. We will provide training, support and supervision required; you will need:
* Excellent communication and team working skills - ideally line management experience
* Good numeracy and literacy
* The ability to read and follow written instructions
* Be computer literate
* Training in food hygiene - ideally HACCP principles knowledge
