Job Description
Our client Carcinotech have an exciting new opportunity for a Bio Scientist to join the team on a permanent basis. Carcinotech are based in the Easter Bush University of Edinburgh Campus.
Carcinotech is an expanding start-up company and is looking for a Biomedical Scientist to work within their small team to support several ongoing projects. The Biomedical scientist will have a keen eye for detail and experience in a quality-focused environment. They will assist the scientific team in testing products and services offered by the company and ensure reliable, consistent outputs.
Key Responsibilities
* Optimisation and routine running of cell-based assays (viability, cell counts, apoptosis, cytotoxicity, ELISA, DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, RT-PCT etc).
* Preparation of samples for flow cytometry and performing FACS analysis
* Reporting results of QC assays and raising issues as they arise
* Preparing & shipping samples & plates to outsourced providers & clients
* Ownership & maintenance of standard QC SOPs
* Input into the preparation & reviews of Certificates of Analysis
* Assisting with Drug testing – creation & execution of dosing plans & assisting with data reviews
* Input into development of new in-house assays to meet client needs and expand Carcinotech’s offering
* Maintaining up to date inventory of frozen samples
* Keeping Electronic Lab Notebook (Benchling) updated and creating reports when required
* Assist with implementation of new quality measures & standards
* Devise and contribute to internal development projects to advance Carcinotech’s offering
* Contributing to writing of protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Essential Criteria
* 2+ years’ experience performing assays in an industry setting
* Working to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in a quality environment such as GLP/GMP
* Demonstrable experience of performing: DNA/RNA extractions, Flow cytometry, PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA
* Experience performing 3D cell culture
* Demonstrable experience in statistical data analysis interpretation, and visualisation
* Proficient in using MS Office packages – Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc
* Strong communication & organisation skills
* Diligent approach to data recording
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
* Ability to multi-task several projects simultaneously
* Creative approach to problem solving
* Proactive, friendly, approachable and displays a positive attitude
Desirable Criteria
* Histology techniques (sample processing, microtomy, cryotomy, H&E staining, and immunohistochemistry)
* Strong oncology knowledge (markers etc)
* Experience in analysing patient databases, genetic and bioinformatics data
* Experience using/programming liquid handling robotics
