Job Description What will you be doing? We’re looking for a Lead Mechanical Development Engineer to take the reins on complex product development within the electrical and power domain. This is a hybrid role based in Luton, where you’ll lead mechanical design activities on cutting-edge aerospace systems — focusing on performance, cost-efficiency, and design for manufacture. Your main responsibilities will be: Take the lead in designing mechanical components and systems that meet both technical and cost requirements. Apply Design for Manufacturing principles to simplify production, reduce cost, and boost performance. Collaborate with procurement teams to provide accurate specs and drawings to support supplier quotes. Work closely with tooling and materials experts to choose the right materials and simplify manufacturing processes — especially for injection moulded parts. Drive down production costs through clever design choices and smart assembly strategies. Plan and support testing — both in the lab and in real-world conditions — to ensure systems are safe, reliable, and meet all performance benchmarks. Manage design reviews, milestone tracking, and technical risks throughout the development lifecycle. Make key design decisions and mentor junior engineers as part of a close-knit, fast-paced engineering team. Who are we looking for? Are proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organised.
