About the Organisation
The Society of Antiquaries of London (SAL) is a prestigious learned society based in the United Kingdom, dedicated to the study of the material past. Established in 1707 and receiving its Royal Charter in 1751, the society focuses on the research, conservation, and understanding of historical and archaeological heritage, particularly in Britain but also beyond.
The Society of Antiquaries aims to advance knowledge of the past by promoting historical and archaeological research, supporting conservation efforts, and facilitating scholarly exchange. It provides a platform for researchers, historians, and archaeologists to share their findings and collaborate on projects that enhance our understanding of cultural heritage.
The society comprises Fellows (FSA), who are elected based on their significant contributions to the fields of archaeology, history, and heritage.
