The post holder is required to work as a proactive member of the ward team and to undertake a range of duties to assist the ward team in maintaining the smooth running of the clinical area.
The post holder will liaise with and provide the multidisciplinary team with timely and accurate information required to support and maintain patient flow, under the direction of the ward manager.
Main duties of the job
* Welcome patients and acknowledge visitors to the ward, ensuring that they are directed to the appropriate area.
* Act as a point of contact for patients, relatives, carers, and the multidisciplinary team, referring enquiries to appropriate personnel.
* Work closely with the Ward Manager and Team to ensure good communication, adhering to the Confidentiality Policy and Data Protection Act at all times.
* Support the routine ward rounds by ensuring that patient notes, investigation reports, and x-rays are maintained and readily available.
* Liaise with the nurse in charge following ward rounds and action any requests, e.g., change of consultant, investigation requests, and filing of notes correctly.
* Be responsible for inputting data onto the computerised information systems, recording patient admissions, discharges, inter-ward, inter-hospital, and consultant transfers, and appropriately tracking medical notes, ensuring that admission and discharge information is updated at the earliest opportunity.
* Liaise with Medical Secretaries, Procurement, Estates, and other personnel to assist in the smooth running of the ward/clinical environment.
* Act professionally and remain courteous at all times.
* Ensure that relatives/carers receive verbal and written information regarding other services as appropriate to individual patient needs.
* Order and monitor stationary supplies, medical consumables, and procurement requests as directed by the ward manager, ensuring an adequate level of ward stock.

Skills and Knowledge
* Demonstrates an awareness for patient confidentiality.
* Competent IT skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).
* Use of PAS, CRIS, EDNF, SBS.
Job Experience
* Previous experience of clerical duties.
* Experience of working within the NHS.
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education and GCSE English Language.
* NVQ customer care/services or equivalent.
* NVQ Business and Administration Level 2.
