Accounts Payable Manager – Plymouth – Circa: £36,000
Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been re-engaged by a long-standing client, a large and well-established services organisation with deep-seated roots in the Plymouth community. The organisation has a large headcount operating across multiple locations and is highly regarded for its structured and nurturing environment, offering great career development for those that seek it. The business currently seeks to recruit an Accounts Payable Manager to join their finance function, a permanent, full-time role that will be predominantly site-based but with hybrid working/flexibility where required.
Supported by a highly experienced (and very friendly) CFO, the successful candidate will assume operational management of the Purchase Ledger function, supporting and mentoring a team of two transactional AP Clerks. This is a busy, high-volume area of the business which will call for efficient work flow skills. Key responsibilities include:
1. Act as the key point of contact for all matters relating to the AP controls of the organisation.
2. Oversee the work of a team of two Finance Assistants to include training, development and day-to-day support.
3. Implement and develop often complex MS Excel spreadsheets (to include V Lookups, Macros, Pivot Tables etc.).
4. Play a key role in forming and developing relationships with key suppliers, resolving queries and maintaining efficient practices.
5. Prepare and action supplier payment runs to include cheque signatory preparation and BACS payments.
6. AP control account reconciliations and month-end processes.
7. Ensure that all AP transactions are correctly logged and coded on a bespoke accounting platform for audit.
8. Work closely with the senior finance team offering commentary on AP activity and potential process improvements.
The position calls for an individual with extensive purchase ledger experience, ideally gained in a high transaction volume environment. Previous experience in a supervisory role would be advantageous but not essential for a candidate with an aptitude for team management and support. Candidates may be part/full AAT or QBE (the company may support ongoing studies for those that require). It is essential that the successful candidates possess sound experience in the use of MS Excel and a good understanding of general accounting principles and financial controls. The role works as part of a friendly and energetic team who have developed an efficient function that relies on teamwork, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential.
