An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Trials Assistant to work in our Research Department. We have unique opportunities for a motivated person to support the research teams at University Hospitals Dorset. The post will involve working within the Oncology Research Team (Division 1). This post is being partially funded through The Early Cancer Diagnosis Programme, and you would be instrumental in the running of this, but with the expectation that you would work on other oncology studies alongside.

Working in the research team, you will join an enthusiastic, driven, and caring team to help provide research across the trust for new and existing studies.
Our team participates in research within many different specialties across the Trust. Enthusiasm, self-motivation, flexibility, and drive will be required for the success of this post. You will be involved in all aspects of the research process from study start-up, recruitment, delivery, and data collection, through to the close-out of a study. You will need to have an excellent level of written and verbal communication skills and good IT skills.
Main duties of the job
You will work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, implementing studies to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.
Previous research experience is not necessary as all training and development will be provided, although clinical skills of performing venepuncture and laboratory skills would be advantageous (but not essential).
Along with the relevant and appropriate experience, you will need to demonstrate:
* An interest in clinical research
* Initiative
* Excellent communication skills to provide guidance and support to patients and colleagues
* Good time management skills with the ability to meet a deadline.

Person Specification
Education and Training
* Current good clinical research practice course (ICH-GCP)
* Good level of general education as evidenced by exam results or qualifications
* Specialist course or module in relevant specialist area
* NVQ level 3 in Care or equivalent experience
Experience
* Experience of working with the public or people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
* Experience working within clinical research
* Participation in clinical audit and evaluation
Technical skills
* Computer literacy within a range of applications (including basic keyboard skills, EPR, CAMIS etc. or willingness to be trained).
* Familiarity with medical terminology
* Ability to seek and obtain informed consent (meets Trust consent competencies)
* Venepuncture
* Competent in laboratory skills
Knowledge
* Knowledge of clinical trials and other research methodology
Interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate factual information accurately
