This Lead Operational Engineer will report to the Client Delivery Manager and will work within UKPN Services - Area A based in our Gatwick Airport and Regional Area office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £94,904 plus business needs car and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose
Your role is to manage their allocated Operational team in all aspects of operational Maintenance requirements relating to the UK Power Networks Services owned assets and associated infrastructure.
You will work with and Support the Client delivery Manager and other members of the team in the delivery of our goals and future budget identification and delivery.
You will provide direction to the Operational Engineers, Assistant Operational Engineers, Works Supervisors, Technicians, Substation Inspectors, Apprentices and Contractors to undertake and complete construction activities in a safe and efficient manner minimising disruption to our client electricity supplies.
You will deliver Client focused Maintenance work, Small Construction projects and N.A.M.P, overseeing the management of substation maintenance on designated Client private networks Infrastructure. You will ensure safety management throughout the team in all areas of your position’s responsibility following the UK Power Networks Services Stay Safe directive.
The HV Distribution Network of our clients is of critical national importance. Operating and carrying out construction works on these networks is a 24/7 job that requires attention to detail, dedication and a great deal of cooperation across departments (internal and external).
Principal Accountabilities
10. Deliver the Maintenance programme for the UK Power Networks Services owned assets operating at voltages through the range 132kV to 230v.
11. Work with the Client delivery Manager to ensure that all programmes of work, Inc Maintenance, are delivered to time and budget following contractual commitments to time, cost and quality
12. Help manage budgets relating to the construction and maintenance delivery and meet ongoing goals.
13. Lead and motivate staff under your control to ensure that UK Power Networks Services goals are achieved especially in Staff and Client satisfaction.
14. Follow Clients and UK Power Networks Services Operations and Procedures
15. Operate HV and LV Distribution Protection Systems.
16. Ensure compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Services Health and Safety policies
17. Develop site specific HSQE procedures
18. Compliance with UK Power Networks Services quality policies
19. Operate and update Asset database in respect of all activities.
20. Perform fault investigation and repairs.
21. Modify equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment.
22. Ensure the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities.
23. Supervise all contractors/staff working on site
24. Undertake additional activities determined by the job level and competency.
25. Develop business relationship with the Clients Engineering and Project Management teams and their appointed principal contractors.
26. Seek opportunities to develop future business and make recommendation to improve the Network resilience.
Responsibilities:
27. Co-ordinate daily Maintenance activities with Client / Principal Contractor’s ensuring programmes are met.
28. Obtain quotations from suppliers and raise Purchase Order request with Finance & Governance team.
29. Provide technical support as part of the delivery team lead
30. Deliver team briefings, give feed-back
31. Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team / company)
32. Seek continuous improvement
33. Required to participate in a standby rota and work additional hours to maintain the supplies to our client infrastructure
34. Work unsocial hours to assist with project works or respond to faults on system
35. Support the Client delivery Manager in the delivery of our client development and Key Account Management Plan
36. Represent UKPNS at client and contractor meetings to meet our client requirements
37. Manage the compliance with all HSQE procedures required by UKPNS and the clients we work with.
38. Specification and procurement of goods and services to complete engineering tasks
39. Daily Management of Operational team including setting of IPR’s, control of overtime and operational costs
40. Manage the daily activities of the team to ensure the successful completion of all engineering tasks
41. Work with the Client delivery and Senior Project Manager to ensure all commercial, contract and financial aspects are complied with for the Operational Team.

Working with the Client delivery Manager, Project managers, Operational Engineers and other team members, the post holder needs to be a team player able to work and lead the team within a pressurised environment to focus on the delivery of construction works to time, quality and also to the client’s satisfaction.
Qualifications
Essential
42. Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules
43. Experience in distribution systems through the range 132kV to 433v & 400v
44. Security clearance for Client infrastructure Access.
45. Medical and Drugs and Alcohol screening
46. Educated to HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
47. Knowledge of distribution HV Systems
48. Knowledge of Building Services Systems
49. Knowledge of specialist HV equipment for the relevant client Network.
50. Read drawings and understand content.
51. Work in different environments
52. Analytical and organised with skills in planning
53. Identify problems, understand main issues and investigate alternatives.
54. Hold full driving licence.
55. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project, SAP and other custom software packages.
56. Manage the budget within a defined area of the strategic operations business to ensure all costs are managed correctly.
57. Experience managing safety to ensure our objective of Zero Harm is achieved.
