The UK Safran Electrical & Power team has expertise in designing and developing electrical systems comprising generators, power conversion, distribution and control, with developing expertise in electric motors for aircraft propulsion. The Role As a Mechanical Engineer in our Product Design team at Safran Electrical & Power you will help to deliver robust designs and work packages using Catia and NX CAD software to high tolerances for use in the aerospace industry. These will be designed to meeting stringent manufacturing, quality, cost and weight targets. You will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical design solutions, to current and future aerospace industry challenges, on existing and next generation smart motor and power generation technologies. Although mostly produced from Metallic materials, some exposure to design and application of Composite materials would be beneficial to this role. Create and support the definition of robust mechanical design solutions, for R&D / R&T project/s, by ensuring the designs are technically robust, fit for purpose and meet both the business and customer needs. Deliver engineering solutions that meet 'Design to Cost' and 'Design to Manufacture/Assembly' requirements. Produce and maintain CAD models, drawings and parts lists that are compliant with all company standards, associated within the work packages assigned to you. Produce and report on Design Assurance documentation, including; design reports, test procedures and Hand/Stress calculations, such as interference fits, thermal growth, hoop and tensile stresses, thread loadings and tolerance analyses. Desirable Experience We are looking for candidates with a range of skills and experience, but were also keen to help people grow and develop in this role.If you have some or all of the following, wed love to hear from you: A Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification/work experience Experience delivering work packages and the ability to guide other Engineers in a team Understanding and experience of using Windchill, or similar PLM tool such as Teamcenter Mechanical design experience with ideally with some exposure to rotating equipment such as shafts An understanding of engineering materials and production methods e.g. lay-ups, filament winding Some exposure to composite applications particularly shafts, tubes or rotating parts Substantial experience of using 2D & 3D CAD software ideally Catia and NX Experience of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Good working knowledge of MS Software i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint Ability to communicate clearly, through written and verbal means, to all levels within the business and be able to interact easily with other Engineering teams Specific knowledge of electrical generation or electrical motors technology is also beneficial If you have experience in the design of other similar complex system types then you may have skills we are interested in and we would welcome your application Evidence of written English at interview stage.
