The Opportunity
The Associate Structural Designer is an early career designer who works directly with Design colleagues to contribute to the efforts of the Smurfit Westrock Merchandising Display Design team, developing POP and POS displays for CPG customers across the retail landscape.
The Associate Designer is developing a robust understanding of business objectives, technical processes, and manufacturing, applying these learnings into his or her design process.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
* Supports team projects, consistently contributing to the body of creative and high-quality design comprising the platform, and producing compelling presentation collateral and imagery to effectively communicate the design intent and value proposition.
* Achieves highest level of customer satisfaction through timely and independent execution and delivery of prototypes, white samples, graphic mock-ups & other job-related tasks.
* Demonstrates excellent planning and follow-through and clear communication to reliably deliver high-quality output and achieve high customer satisfaction and build trust with Account teams and customer stakeholders.
* Actively participates in ideation to support customer or platform innovation projects, generating new ideas and intellectual property.
* Contributes to design requests under the supervision of project leads.
* Creates creative and compelling visuals, appropriately leveraging brand guides, templates, and other tools.
* Demonstrates an Opportunity Mindset, seizing opportunities to learn from senior designers and leaders and using their own experiences to recommend and seek new opportunities for the business and for team development.
* Developing an understanding of MFG and processes. Learning the implications of design choices in manufacturing and demonstrates responsibility for balancing customer/market needs with mitigating complexity.
* Accountable for taking Customer-approved designs through to converting execution, following the “execution process” or working closely with the converting plant, estimating, printing, die-cutting, and finishing teams; with the support of Design Management as needed.
* Seeks to understand assembly environment and design implications.
* Follows appropriate testing protocols to conduct testing and can articulate what the results indicate and recommend appropriate next steps to senior leaders.
What You Need To Succeed
* Basic proficiency of Adobe Suite – Especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
* Basic proficiency of Microsoft Office products – Especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
* Ability to understand 3D thinking.
* Basic understanding of printing processes and limitations.
* Proficient in operation of equipment including Cad Tables & Large format printers.
* Ability to effectively execute structural development, instruction sheets, 3D renderings, mockups, etc.
* Associate or bachelor’s degree in industrial design, packaging design, or a related field is required. No previous work experience required.
* Good verbal, written and graphics communications skills are also required.
* A creative and curious mind, mechanical aptitude, the ability to convey concepts with quick sketches and creative 3D problem-solving skills; a highly developed sense of aesthetics, print production knowledge, and an eye to detail.
* Good organizational skills; must be able to drive projects to completion in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The salary range for this position is $59,250.00 - $98,750.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
