Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Assistant Psychologist - Band 5 to join Cardiff and Vale UHB’s newly formed Live Well Long-Term Medical Conditions Service. The post-holder will join the Consultant Psychologist and Practitioner Psychologist to provide direct clinical services and support other staff in delivering psychosocial approaches to Long Term Medical Conditions.
This is a highly collaborative post – working with our service users to co-design and deliver services; working with professional colleagues and managers within the UHB; and working to ensure we can demonstrate the impact of psychological approaches within long term conditions.
Main duties of the job
The role involves assisting in the delivery of the psychological aspects of the service including helping with service re-design/improvement, clinical delivery, and supporting other staff members in using psychological approaches.
The post holder will support the Consultant Psychologist and Practitioner Psychologist in the psychology of long-term medical conditions and help to report and disseminate information on approaches and outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
It is essential for this post to hold a Honours Degree in Psychology (or its equivalent), and to be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
* An upper second-class honours degree or higher in Psychology.
* Eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society.
* Additional training in relevant areas e.g., mental health practice, research design, psychological therapy.
Experience
* Relevant clinical experience.
* Experience of applying clinical/counselling psychology in the NHS.
* Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Previous experience of audit and/or service evaluation.
* Experience of working in caring roles within mental or physical healthcare.
Skills
* High level communication skills in both spoken and written communication.
* Ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information.
* Competence in research design and methodologies.
* Ability to plan and prioritise own workload.
* Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
Personal Qualities
* An ability to manage emotional issues arising from working with clients in significant distress.
* Reflective capacity.
Other
* Ability to use word processing and computer packages for both report-writing and data analysis.
* Ability to speak Welsh (use levels 1-3).
