SRG is delighted to be supporting an organisation focusing on AMR with their search for a Senior Scientist. They are developing precision protein antibiotics to target bacterial pathogens that show high levels of resistance to conventional antibiotics due to the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Their novel engineered protein bacteriocin antibiotics are designed to precisely target pathogenic bacteria without collateral damage to the microbiome. Maintenance of a healthy microbiome is essential to prevent AMR due to the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Main duties and responsibilities
As a Senior Scientist, you will have extensive experience in protein engineering, production, and characterisation. You will work with the existing R&D team in Glasgow and Oxford to design, produce, characterise, and test new bacteriocin antibiotics using their proprietary engineering strategies.
Qualifications
* PhD or equivalent experience in microbiology or a relevant subject
* Significant knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology techniques
* Recent experience in protein engineering, production, and characterisation
* Experience of in vitro and in vivo infection models
* Previous experience in antibiotic research and development
* Record of publications in the field
