We are seeking a College Counsellor for our Upper/High School to work as part of a team in the Senior School playing a leading role in college counselling for students in grades 9 to 12, to start 1st April 2024.
Main Responsibilities:
* To take the leading role in all educational and informational programs related to college counselling (e.g., student, teacher, and parent workshops, open evenings, assemblies, etc.)
* To keep up to date on issues and trends related to university placement through professional development and attending conferences.
* To be college counsellor for a group of students in grades 11 & 12, which will be divided amongst the college counselling department.
* To meet regularly and individually with students and families in your caseload to advocate for your students throughout their college application process.
* To work with advisors to facilitate the college application process, including course selection.
* To work with faculty to improve and standardise the quality of their advocacy letters.
* To work with the English Department to help students develop application essays and personal statements.
* To implement and develop the use of Bridge-U in the college application process.
* To develop and maintain strong relationships with university admissions personnel through school visits and visits to campuses.
* To keep college placement records, produce reports about placements, and update the school profile.
* To monitor 11th and 12th grade student schedules in relation to college applications.
* To keep abreast of individual student status regarding graduation status, academic warnings, honour roll, etc.
* To be available for parent conferences.
* To serve on Accreditation, ISI, and other committees as requested.
* To accurately maintain and use counselling-related data in the student information system (currently PowerSchool) and our online content management system (currently Schoology).
* To edit the school profile and college applications handbook.
* To be jointly responsible, with all other high school staff, for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children in the school.
Professional Expertise:
* The ideal candidate will have had some previous teaching experience in an AP or IB international environment.
* Strong knowledge of UK, US, and other colleges and universities.
* An established network of admissions colleagues; previous experience of using or willingness to learn to use Bridge-U programming and administration.
Scope of Job:
* To work collaboratively in the Senior School to align college counselling with our holistic approach to school programming.
* To be responsible for: 30-60 seniors (and their parents) in the college application process; 40-60 juniors (and their parents) preparing for college application and training; 60 faculty to carry out their part in the college application process.
* To work with rising Grade 9 and 10 students and parents in course selection and understanding of college/university pathways and the use of Bridge-U.
Knowledge and Skills:
* Educated to degree level.
* Prior experience working in High School College Counselling is essential.
* Experience in teaching is preferred; strong IT skills are essential.
* Knowledge of Bridge-U and PowerSchool preferred.

Location: ACS International School, Cobham, UK
Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm
To begin each year one week before teachers arrive for pre-planning and to end the academic year with post-planning days. Depending on the timeline of the calendar year, likely to be needed for some flex holiday hours to align work availability with peak university submission deadlines.
