An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Deputy Service Manager for the Psychological Medicines Services at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. The post-holder will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated mental health clinician who will act as the clinical lead for the two busy psychological medicine services. These dynamic liaison psychiatry services assess and support people with mental health problems who have been referred by the Emergency Departments and the Wards, and the age range includes adults over 18 years old and older adults over 65 years old. The services are delivered by multi-disciplinary teams which operate 24 hours per day. Part of this role will be developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholder colleagues.
You will work 37.5 hours per week, over five days and across the two sites of Wexham Park Hospital and Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Main duties of the job
* Responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high standard, evidence-based service that puts safety, quality, and the service user experience at the centre of services.
* Maintain staffing levels and the high quality of services delivered, in collaboration with the Service Manager.
* Provide innovative professional leadership to ensure and consistently develop a high quality, safe, and cost-effective service for service users, working in partnership with key stakeholders internal and external to the Trust.
* Line manage service teams and provide leadership and advice across the service, addressing staffing issues across the service where required.
* Plan and manage resource requirements to meet the needs of the service.
* Support team members to work independently to carry out skilled and comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
* Ensure the teams provide the Acute hospital staff with specialist advice, support, and supervision.
* Ensure provision of evidence-based high quality, timely, and comprehensive assessments and treatment to patients referred.
* Develop our understanding of liaison psychiatry work to improve the clinical care patients receive within the emergency departments and ward settings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Professional mental health qualification such as RMN or Social Worker.
2. Substantial experience as a band 7.
3. Experience of working in Mental Health Urgent Care Services.

Person specification
Education/Qualifications/Training
* Professional Qualification in mental health (degree or equivalent e.g. Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker).
* Current Registration with appropriate professional body.
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio.
* Leadership Qualification.
Previous Experience
* Experience as a Team Lead Band 7 within acute psychiatry and/or community mental health.
* Experience in carrying out independent clinical assessments including risk assessments.
* Experience managing a caseload which has included individuals at risk of self-harm.
* Experience providing therapeutic interventions.
* Providing clinical and or managerial supervision.
* Experience of multi-disciplinary working.
* Formal/informal teaching and experience of supervising student placements.
* Good knowledge of community services.
* Clinical audit and or research.
* Liaison with acute hospital.
* Working with people who have complex needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Proven skills in effective leadership within a multi-disciplinary setting.
* A specialist knowledge and clinical expertise in assessing people who have acute mental health problems.
* Understanding and experience of risk management, with a good understanding of clinical governance.
* Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
* IT literate and able to use e-mail, internet, word, spreadsheets, and databases.
* Able to prioritise effectively.
* Evidence of advanced problem-solving skills.
* Able to reflect and appraise own performance and pursue self-directed work/learning.
* Experience in producing reports and presenting data.
* Aware of a range of interventions that can be used with the client group.
* Understanding the legal framework of mental health service and professional accountability.
