Key Responsibilities of SEMH Teaching Assistant: Assist in the development and implementation of individualised education plans for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to tailor educational activities and resources to meet the specific needs of each student. Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs to help students understand and complete their work, providing additional explanations and assistance as needed. Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to teachers and adjusting support strategies as necessary. Participate in meetings and discussions to share insights and strategies for supporting each student’s learning and well-being. Help foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where all students feel valued and included. Employ different instructional techniques and materials to cater to the diverse learning styles and needs of students. Keep detailed notes on each student’s development and communicate this information to teachers, parents, and other relevant parties. Requirements of SEMH Teaching Assistant: Experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, building positive and supportive relationships. Demonstrate the ability to establish trust and rapport with all members of the school community. Show a deep commitment in helping students with SEMH needs by exhibiting patience and empathy in your interactions. Additional qualifications or training in special education are advantageous but not mandatory, providing you with additional skills and knowledge to support students with SEMH needs effectively.
