Job Overview
BAE Systems is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer – Product Safety to join our team. As a key member of our Safety & Environmental Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our products during the design process.
Key Responsibilities
* Apply safety analysis techniques such as Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
* Develop and maintain a deep understanding of safety standards and regulations, including UK Defence Standard and publications such as Defence Standard 00-56, Defence Standard 00-55, DSA-01, and DSA-02.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety considerations are integrated into product design and development.
* Provide safety expertise and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to safety.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of a healthy product safety culture within the team and wider business.
Requirements
* STEM degree with Product Safety experience within a regulated industry.
* Good working knowledge of the requirements of IEC 61508 and/or IEC 61511 for complex Software and Hardware Safety Instrumented Systems.
* Desirable: Experience of model-based Systems Engineering, Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartership, experience within the Defence Industry, familiarity with Cyber-Safety concepts, experience of development of complex Systems of Systems (SoS), and knowledge of Safety standards and practices outside of the Defence domain.
