Outreach Recovery Worker - Suffolk Drug & Alcohol Service
Job Introduction
Please Note: A Full UK Driving License and Access to a Vehicle is an Essential Requirement.
Part Time Role: 18.5 hours per week (2.5 days)
Young people, Safeguarding and Families team
Do you want to help build a brighter future for communities and individuals in Suffolk doing a highly rewarding job? Turning Point Suffolk Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) are currently expanding during a really exciting time in the sector with new funding and investment. We have a range of roles for people passionate about supporting others to make change.
There is an opportunity to work in Foundations - the Children, Young people, Young Adults, Families and Safeguarding team in the West of Suffolk.
You will have opportunities to progress your career with a structured learning journey and clearly defined career pathways that will enable you to achieve your long-term goals and work to your strengths.
Whether you are looking to progress into a management and leadership role or to be a specialist in your field as an Advanced Substance Use Practitioner at Turning Point, we will support and encourage you on your career journey.
Role Responsibility
You will carry a mixed and varied case load of young people and young adults, some who are using drugs or alcohol and some that are affected by someone else's use.
You will also work within schools, children's care homes or alternative education providers to offer supportive group work sessions to help ensure that as many young people across Suffolk can access drug and alcohol education.
The case load will come from a wide number of referral sources; therefore, building strong professional relationships with partner agencies will be vital to your role.
You will work with clients in their community helping them to learn more about drugs and alcohol, dispelling myths and supporting them to learn new and better ways to cope.
Within the role, you will be looking at all aspects of the client’s life, helping them to access other services where appropriate, so an understanding of the youth offer across Suffolk is an advantage.
You may work with a young person in their family home, so confidence to manage family conflict and skills to support positive communication between your client and their caregivers will be useful.
The Ideal Candidate
* Substance Use experience is an advantage, but youth work experience is vital as you have to be able to engage young people who can be resistant to support.
* This is an outreach role, which means you are not based in a hub; you may spend extended periods of time working alone, in partner agency spaces, and therefore being confident in your practice and understanding how to access support and follow policies will be important skills.
* You will be working using a multi-agency approach, looking at helping the client create a community support package that they can rely on into their future if needed.
* You would be expected to attend multi-agency meetings regarding your clients, so a good understanding of safeguarding is important.
* As the role is outreach, good time management will be important as will strong IT skills, as you will be expected to manage your own client records, diary, and time.
* The successful candidate will be offered a comprehensive training package including ‘Thrive Approach’ training.
