Job Description Start here. Grow here. The AECOM Surface Transportation, Aviation & Ports Team in Ireland has over 150 professionals operating from Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Galway. We are seeking a highly driven Senior Engineer to join our Ireland Roads, Public Transport, and Greenways Team. We are looking to grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background, good communication skills, and that share our enthusiasm and determination to develop our business and deliver for our key clients. The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer, or close to achieving Chartered Engineer status, with a good grounding in road engineering design, greenway design, urban design, and project management. The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high quality projects. The person will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from our Belfast office to suit our projects’ needs. Current & Upcoming Projects for our team: Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Northern Ireland Newry Southern Relief Road Donegal Greenways – Buncrana to Carndonagh, Burtonport to Letterkenny, Barnesmore Gap, Three Trees to Carndonagh, Carrigans to Lifford National Transport Authority (NTA) National Bus Stops Design Team DfI Support Services for Intelligent Transport Systems and EU Funded Projects N4 Mullingar to Longford (Roosky) BusConnects Dublin & Cork NTA Bus Depots and Bus Terminals Greenways Phases 1 – 4 including West Cork Greenway – Skibbereen Sections, and Galway to Oughterard Here’s what you’ll do: Deliver: Lead and deliver on our portfolio of Roads and Greenway projects where there will be opportunity for significant progression where the right candidate will grow into a design lead and project manager role. Oversee: You will be responsible for the appointment of competent discipline lead engineers for technical delivery. Plan and develop engineering tasks concerned with unique problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches. Provide Expertise: Offer technical knowledge and expertise to the design team on all aspects of multi-disciplinary projects, from conceptual phases to implementation. Ensure Quality: Working through the complexities of our projects, you will hold our clients’ hands and overcome problems in unison when they inevitably arise. Collaborate: Working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of local, national, and international road schemes or similar major civil engineering projects. Here’s what we’re looking for: Post qualification (see requirements below) experience in supporting delivery of infrastructure through UK and/or Irish statutory processes for roads and active travel schemes (e.g. Development Consent Orders, Direction Orders, S38/Part 8, and An Bord Pleanála applications). Experience of design of active travel schemes in both rural and urban settings. Experience in the preparation and supervision of construction contracts for UK and/or Ireland projects, with the New Engineering Contract and Public Works Contract forms particularly desirable. Experience in the co-ordination of discipline teams (e.g. geotechnics, transport planning, environmental, structures) to complete scheme designs. Technical design experience to engineering, cycling and bus priority standards and guidelines in the UK and/or Ireland, i.e.: Technical design experience with the UK and/or Ireland Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Specification for Highway/Road Works and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works on schemes is considered essential. Technical design experience with the UK and/or Ireland guidance on cycle design is not essential, but considered desirable. Experience with the Ireland Cycle Design Manual and Design Manual for Urban Streets is particularly desirable. Technical design experience in bus priority schemes in the UK and/or Ireland is not essential but considered desirable. Experience with NTA Bus Stop Guidance is particularly desirable.
