We are looking for a Low Voltage (LV) (HAZ) Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team and support significant ongoing programmes of works to renew and upgrade MODs electrical infrastructure; and also, to ensure MOD reduces its carbon emissions by introducing renewable energy sources to meet its Net Zero commitments. MOD Establishments include specialist facilities such as: explosive and fuel installations, shore to ship supplies, Data Centres, airfield lighting, and renewable energy systems. This position attracts a non-pensionable Recruitment & Retention Allowance (RRA) of 3000 per annum on top of the basic salary. Please note that this allowance will be pro-rated for part time staff. Key responsibilities include; Low voltage installations and equipment in potentially explosive areas Providing proactive and evidenced based technical assurance and specialist support on LV equipment and installation on hazardous areas on the MOD sites Safe Systems of Work (Hazardous Areas) Supporting the Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the Electrical team and delivery of its function The implementation, assurance and administration of the MODs Electrical Safe System of Work including competency assessments on Authorised Engineer (AE), peer reviews on safety audit reports, technical briefs, reports, drawings, and specifications etc Drafting, updating and maintaining DIO publications such as policy, technical standards, safety alerts, technical bulletins, information notes etc in the area of responsibility. Acting as a SME, Technical Advisor and if necessary, conducting or leading investigations on electrical incidents, accidents, and near misses Where required, undertake research and development activities in support of the above There may be an opportunity for you to represent the MOD or DIO on legislative, standardisation or industry working groups/committees both in the UK and abroad Person specification The successful candidate will demonstrate the following essential criteria: knowledge and experience of low voltage electrical equipment and installations in potentially explosive environments working knowledge of principle legislation, mandatory requirements and industry standards for systems and equipment The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in working towards a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.), Or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) qualification.
