An exciting opportunity has arisen within Legal and Licensing Services. We are looking to recruit a Property Solicitor who will work as part of our in-house Commercial, Planning and Property Team. The team delivers a diverse and complex range of commercial, planning, property and general public sector legal support to the Council organisation wide and aims to deliver an outcome/client focussed legal service ensuring that we meet our client service needs and Council priorities.
We would be pleased to hear from anyone with enthusiasm and specialist experience in property to join our Commercial, Planning and Property Team with a strong interest in local government.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake primarily a broad range of property work and also support the Legal & Licensing Service deliver ad hoc general public sector advice, which includes sitting as legal advisor to a number of regulatory committees.

Requirements
The successful post holder must:
1. Hold a degree in Scots Law (or equivalent) and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
2. Be admitted as a solicitor by the Law Society of Scotland and hold a current unrestricted Practising Certificate.
Additional Requirements:
1. Have a good working knowledge of Scots Law.
2. Have good knowledge of current and impending legislation and practice areas, and an understanding of the impacts on the public sector.
3. Have knowledge and experience of delivering legal advice in the Local Government/Public Sector.
4. Experience of supporting clients/employer to develop policies/strategies.
5. Good written and verbal communication skills.
6. Ability to manage varied and challenged workload.
7. Effective time-management skills and prioritisation.
8. Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft packages - Outlook, Word, case/file management systems etc.
9. Good organisational and file management skills.
10. Ability to provide succinct and targeted advice.
11. Drafting and negotiation skills.
12. Legal Research skills.
13. Ability to work effectively as part of a Team.
14. Self-confident and self-motivated.
15. Fostering client relationships and good resolutions.
16. Able to form productive working relations with various Council officials, elected members, and external solicitors.
17. Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service.
18. Appreciation, acceptance of and a commitment to the importance of confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Some knowledge/experience of the following is desirable:
1. Experience of operating within a political regime.
2. Understand local and national strategies and impacts on local government services.
3. Experience of supporting committees, sub-committees and other Council led bodies/partnerships.
The Council is willing to consider applications with cross border equivalents provided the successful candidate obtains a Certificate of Eligibility and undertakes to complete QLA (Qualified Lawyers Assessment) within 18 months of appointment.
