About the role:
To manage a team of Registered nurses and Healthcare assistants ensuring the effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for an identified group of service users. Responsible to ensure effective performance management of all clinical staff in line with Brainkind policies and procedures for recruitment, induction, development, supervision, appraisal and discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Responsible to lead the nursing team in developing the quality of nursing care, acting as a source of support and advice to colleagues and relatives. Delegating clearly and appropriately, adopting the principles of safe practice and assessing competence.
2. Takes responsibility for a service user group, consulting and liaising with the multi-disciplinary team, service users, family/carers over their care. Assess the impact of policy implementation on care delivery.
3. In consultation with the Head of Clinical Services/Ward Manager, assess potential service users in liaison with Health and / or Social Services commissioners. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates individualised care using evidence based guidelines.
4. Produces accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of service user consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures, whether in a handwritten or electronic format.
5. Ensure all clinical staff (including self) receive formal documented supervision / clinical supervision in line with Brainkind professional and statutory requirements. Promotes and demonstrates the highest clinical standards and assess through monitoring competencies.
6. Ensures the identification of training needs, and support staff in their development. Actively promotes the workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice.
7. Providing an educational role to patients, carers, families and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning. Shares knowledge and expertise with other staff through formal and informal teaching. Act as mentor to students, assessing competence against set standards as requested and if appropriately qualified.
8. To maintain an understanding of and to act in accordance with all Brainkind policies and procedures.
9. In order to facilitate the safe and smooth running of the Service, employees are expected to maintain a safe working environment, maintain service user confidentiality, and occasionally take on reasonable additional tasks.
About you:
1. Registered Nurse or degree level qualification.
2. Experience in specialist palliative or neurological care depending on service requirement.
3. Proven skills in leading, building and influencing in a clinical setting.
4. Knowledge of current legislation within independent care sector.
5. Demonstrable experience of practicing in a self-directed and highly motivated way.
6. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate difficult messages to service users and their families.
7. Negotiation and conflict management skills.
8. Able to effectively manage change and manage performance.
9. An ability to provide teaching and mentorship in a clinical setting.
