About the role
We have an exciting, challenging but rewarding opportunity available! We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual who would relish the opportunity to share their experience and skills to support high quality design, technology and engineering education. As well as organising safe workshop environments and resources, the role is predominantly to assist both tutors and students during project & practical activities to maximise our students’ development & learning, their achievement and their enjoyment. The role is really interesting and varied, from providing technical advice & guidance to the demonstration of skills, from assignment support to developing student’s practical competency.
The successful candidate will be supporting our Design & Technology and Engineering tutors/students across a range of vocational engineering & manufacturing programmes, including A Level Design Technology and T Level Engineering Manufacturing Design and Development and will be able to support practical lessons and project based teaching, supporting the tutor to help students develop skills to create successful prototypes and 3D solutions with a range of engineering problems.
About the Person
Excellent organisational, problem solving and communication/interpersonal skills are essential for the role, as well as having a broad range of experience in design/engineering/creative industries. Experience of workshop health and safety legislation and workshop organisation & management is a significant advantage.
The role is multi-disciplinary so general workshop skills are essential, requiring competency when working with a range of materials such as woods, metals & polymers. Any experience with Computer Numerical Control & Manufacture (Lathe & Mill), 2D / 3D CAD (e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks), 3D printing/additive manufacture would certainly be of benefit.
A minimum of a relevant Level 2 qualification and relevant industrial or educational experience in the disciplines of design & technology, engineering, manufacturing, or 3D design is critical.
Candidates may offer skills and experiences suitable for a proportion of role or the total 37 hours per week.
