An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) to work within the Services for People with a Learning Disability (SPLD). The post is based in Twinwoods Health Resource Centre, Clapham, Bedfordshire; the postholder will work countywide to deliver a high quality and compassionate service.
Main duties of the job
You will provide specialist OT assessment, intervention and/or recommendations to service users across Bedfordshire and Luton, using evidence based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions with a focus on enabling an individual's occupational functioning. You will work within a multidisciplinary community based team and see service users in their homes, day care settings and/or work places. We work closely with caregivers to ensure individuals receive the care and support they need. You should have some demonstrable experience of, and passion for, working with adults who have a Learning Disability and/or autism and up-to-date knowledge of current OT provision for this client group.
Ayres' Sensory Integration is a core part of our offer within the SPLD pathways and we will support you to complete SI training if you have not done so already. We also facilitate a bimonthly SI special interest group for those OT's across Bedfordshire and Luton Mental Health services who are utilising SI in their clinical work and/or have an interest in this.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification/Training
* BSc OT or equivalent
* HCPC registration
* Full UK driving licence and use of car with business insurance
* Fieldwork Educators qualification or to complete within 12 months of appointment
* AMPs trained (with use of up-to-date software)
* Sensory Integration - level 1 training
Experience
* Post registration experience as an Occupational Therapist; with some experience of working with people who have a learning disability.
* Experience of community/lone working.
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
* Supervision of junior OT staff and/or students.
Knowledge & Skills
* Utilisation of relevant OT assessment techniques/tools to assess individual's abilities and difficulties in relation to their desired goals in everyday activities.
* Application of MOHO; including use of assessment tools.
* Application of a variety of OT treatment modalities to provide specialist intervention to those with LD and complex needs.
* Relevant post grad training and application of this eg autism, assessment/intervention tools.
* Use of outcome measures.
* Broad knowledge of current best practice in OT and learning disabilities.
* Applied knowledge of relevant National Guidance relating to LD healthcare and OT.
* Ability to integrate theory and practice and demonstrate creative problem-solving processes.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Good IT Skills, including use of Word and Microsoft Outlook.
* Ability to manage own workload and determine priorities.
