Driver - Remote Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) is a charity that provides a comprehensive rehabilitation service to sight and hearing impaired people of all ages and abilities across Kent. Our Mobile Sight Centre, Iris, plays a huge role in our delivery, ensuring access to KAB services for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to visit. This enables service users to try our resources and accessible technology for themselves, while also delivering vital information to schools and communities. We are seeking an experienced and confident driver to take Iris, our Mobile Sight Centre, to various events around the County. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safe and aesthetic assembly of promotional items and equipment, as well as assist the onboard staff during busy periods. You will have strong communication, time management and interpersonal skills, with proven experience in a similar role. Due to the specifications of the vehicle, the successful applicant must hold a current C1 driving license. Salary: £11.44 per hour Location: Vehicle base – Ashford. Duties Drive the vehicle in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Highway Code, to and from pre-arranged locations within KAB’s area of service, including exhibitions, events and the base parking location. Map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most appropriate road usage. Keep abreast of traffic and weather reports and stay up-to-date on road conditions and adjust routes as necessary. To ensure the safe and aesthetic assembly of promotional items, furniture and equipment as appropriate, at relevant events, exhibitions and community services. Prior to each daily use undertake visual checks and basic maintenance for the vehicle e.g. oil levels, washer fluid etc. Organising cleaning of vehicle and arrange when necessary services and MOT to maintain basic working order and prevent unnecessary deterioration. Carry out a weekly recorded check in accordance with the maintenance schedule. Shared responsibility with onboard staff for health and safety in the provision of the outreach service, which includes risk assessment at locations. Meet and greet visitors to Iris, providing a positive representation of KAB. Support the onboard team by taking the contact details of potential clients during busy periods, allowing for follow up contact, as appropriate. Attend training, supervision and development opportunities as directed by line manager in order to develop skills and knowledge. Perform other duties that the CEO of KAB or their authorised deputy may consider appropriate.
