Loughborough University is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced senior technician/technical tutor in the Chemistry Department of the multi-disciplinary School of Science.
The post holder will apply substantial experimental subject expertise to provide NMR and wider technical support to staff and students in the Chemistry research laboratories. The role will also support the learning and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate practical sessions/project work in the Chemistry teaching laboratories when required.
Duties will include:
1. Maintaining the Chemistry NMR service for multi-user access.
2. Ensuring broader chemistry research equipment and specialist facilities are maintained and technical support is provided to research staff and student users.
3. Implementing and enforcing laboratory Health and Safety procedures.
4. Providing supervision and instruction to students in laboratories.
5. Applying knowledge and expertise to support research projects across the Chemistry Department.
This role would suit someone from a chemistry synthesis background with substantial practical experience with NMR spectrometers and the ability to oversee a multi-user facility. A good working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations and practices is also required.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with proven communication skills. Experimental knowledge of other analytical instrumentation would be advantageous, as would the ability to deliver practical chemistry sessions individually and as part of a team.
