Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (Mandarin)
Teacher Main Scale or UPS
Full time from September 2025 on a permanent basis.
We are recruiting for a teacher of MFL (Mandarin Chinese) to join our successful and thriving MFL department here at Cleeve School from September 2025.
ECTs are very welcome and encouraged to apply and our provision for new members of staff is strong, particularly driven by our emphasis on career development. We are a teacher training lead hub school, which brings opportunity and mirrors being a centre of excellence for staff training. On appointment, you will be supported by a successful Head of Department, and a broader team of professionals, depending on your stage of career development. We pride ourselves on being the school of choice for ECTs.
Languages are highly valued at Cleeve and there is a keen interest by the Executive Head and Governing body to continue to increase student uptake of the EBacc and develop international links and events across the curriculum. Outcomes in MFL have significantly improved over the years and the department goes from strength to strength! The department has an extremely well-resourced subject area, with attractive teaching rooms, an excellent range of teaching resources and a great network with local schools. This role has the potential opportunity to teach Mandarin at KS5, with our Sixth Form Centre of Excellence very recently being recognised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
At Cleeve School students of Mandarin are part of the nationally-recognised Mandarin Excellence Programme. We invest significantly into the study of Mandarin allowing students and teachers access to a wide variety of resources, such as electronic resources like GoChinese and cultural enrichment activities and days. Students are timetabled for up to 8 hours of Mandarin a fortnight, promoting excellent progress in the language, and numbers in Year 7 MEP classes rose 50% in September 2023, with numbers sustained for September 2024 making it a truly exciting time to join the languages department at Cleeve School. Our Ofsted inspection has entirely recognised the energy and ambition of our school.
The school is an equal opportunities employer and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare
of children and young people, and therefore expects all staff and volunteers, to share this same commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
