Windsor Forest College Group is looking for an Ectotherm Technician to join the BCA team on a full-time basis. Please note this role requires the successful applicant to work 5 out of 7 days including regular weekends and bank holidays.
About Us
BCA Animal Education Centre aims to be industry leading in its progressive approach to welfare. It is organised into two areas that are separately licensed and have specialist technical staff. It sits within the beautiful BCA campus near Maidenhead.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day care and husbandry of the reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrate species housed at BCA Zoo. The section is part of our zoo licensed and BIAZA accredited collection. It consists of approximately 65 species including both some rare and EEP species (e.g. Egyptian tortoise, giant Asian river toads, Lake Titicaca frogs and Peruvian bush anoles) and also popular pet species such as royal pythons, crested geckos and leopard geckos.
The key responsibilities of the role are developing and maintaining the highest standards of husbandry and animal welfare as well as the direct supervision of students during their practical sessions and skills development.
As an animal centre technician, you will be expected to have proven knowledge and experience of working with a range of herpetological, aquatic and invertebrate species and experience of working with young people. You must have a forward-thinking and progressive approach to animal welfare, training and enrichment.
An important element of the role is ensuring that the student experience is both positive and rewarding. To meet this aim, it is essential the post holder has a clear commitment to providing high-quality support to our learners as well as demonstrating exceptional standards of animal welfare.
