Join our welcoming team at St Helier/Epsom General Hospital Paediatric Emergency Department as a Band 6 nurse! This is a dynamic role with the opportunity to work across other Trust sites as needed. We offer Paediatric Crisis SIM courses, APLS training, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Plus, our dedicated Paediatric ED Practice Development Nurse is here to support you every step of the way.
Main duties of the job
1. Will be professionally accountable for their standards of professional practice as set by the NMC Code of Professional Standards of practice and behaviour and relevant professional guidelines.
2. Will undertake the nurse in charge role for the department.
3. Will supervise, support and educate other team members, including nursing and medical students.
4. Will ensure safe and effective clinical practice and enhance patient experience.
5. Will ensure the promotion and implementation of trust policies and the effective delivery of organisational objectives.
6. Will promote the Trust’s visions, values and divisional objectives.

Key Responsibilities
1. Professional Leadership: Uphold the highest standards of practice in line with the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines.
2. Department Oversight: Take on the nurse-in-charge role, ensuring smooth and efficient departmental operations.
3. Mentorship & Education: Supervise, mentor, and educate team members, including nursing and medical students.
4. Patient Care: Deliver safe, effective clinical care while enhancing the overall patient experience.
5. Policy Implementation: Promote and enforce Trust policies, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
6. Championing Excellence: Advocate for the Trust’s vision, values, and divisional objectives, inspiring the team to excel.
Person specification
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse – Child (RSCN/RNC) with current NMC registration.
2. Demonstrated experience within an acute or emergency Paediatric setting.
3. Experience of effective shift coordination, management of patient care, staffing + resources.
Desirable criteria
1. Module in relevant specialist area e.g. children’s emergency nursing module and Degree (or working towards) in relevant health subject.
2. Experience of Paediatric emergency nursing at a Band 5.
Core skills
Essential criteria
1. Mentorship, teaching and assessing.
Desirable criteria
1. Advanced competency in nursing skills, e.g. triage and assessment, plastering, IV competency, central line management.
