Job Introduction
BBC Sounds Audio Lab is a podcast accelerator programme with one big ambition – to amplify next-generation audio creatives. We help to develop under-represented voices and turn fresh ideas into podcasts to better reflect all of the UK.
You will receive a full-time salary for 7 months from July 2025 to January 2026 as a trainee podcast creator, at an Assistant Producer level, plus receive a range of practical and professional development.
We are looking for individuals who:
* Have a podcast idea that could be “the one” we all need to hear.
* Would like to create their own podcast of 4-6 episodes, to be showcased on BBC Sounds.
* Are open to being managed, guided, and directed by an experienced production team.
You will be contracted by the BBC and embedded with Audio Lab’s production partners for the duration of your contract. For 2025 our partners are:
* BBC Audio Scotland and Northern Ireland - Glasgow or Belfast
* Reduced Listening - London
Individuals placed with independent production companies will have regular contact with the Audio Lab team and other BBC colleagues for activities including training, guidance, feedback and networking.
Please Note:
You can only apply for one of the 4 placements. Candidates who apply for more than one will not be considered.
If you’re interested in this role and would like more information before applying, we are holding a webinar session where you can meet some of the team and partners you’ll be working with and find out more about how to apply.
Your main responsibility will be to plan and develop your idea as part of an established production team, securing its commission on BBC Sounds.
We are open to ideas in most formats – solo, co-host, panel, interview, conversational, narrative storytelling, investigative, montage/soundscape.
You will play a key role at each stage of development and production, with close supervision and direction from experienced producers.
Are you the right candidate?
* You will have a range of audio and content making experience such as writing, interviewing, recording, editing or presenting.
* You will be at a stage in your career where you will benefit from training and support provided by Audio Lab.
* You will be able to demonstrate creative and distinctive thinking.
* You will have good knowledge of how social media can help you reach an audience.
* You will have strong planning and organising skills.
* You will have the ability to problem solve and suggest effective solutions.
Your Idea
* We encourage ideas that reflect authentic experiences and interests.
* Do you have an entertaining idea or perspective that feels fresh or different?

Application and How to Apply
* We anticipate a high number of applications.
* Shortlisting will take place from February to April 2025 and interviews are planned to take place in late April 2025.
* Please tell us if you have access or support requirements for any part of your application.
* You are required to submit a CV, an application form including some role specific questions, a short video answer (90 seconds max) and an audio clip (3 minutes max).
