The Future Product Team within the Nuclear (Submarines) business is looking for a Development and Verification Engineer as part of the Development Engineering team. Future Product sits within the Technology Department and is responsible for the technology development programmes delivering the next generation of nuclear products across the Submarines Enterprise. We are a small agile team that work across a breadth of technical scope and relish the opportunities of having hands on impact to major engineering programmes straight from the pre-concept phase onwards.
Working closely with adjacent teams across Technology and the specialist taxonomies across the business, the Development Engineering team are responsible for defining and implementing the Verification and Validation strategy for Future Product. This includes the identification and delivery of necessary development programmes to increase verification capability across analysis, test and demonstration where needed.
This exciting opportunity requires innovative, pragmatic, systems thinkers to work together with a variety of teams to understand how novel technologies and products can be validated for entry into service and associated capability will be required. From bench top test rigs to large scale demonstrators and new analytical and simulation methods, the Future Product V&V programme poses a wealth of opportunities to deliver the next step change in Nuclear technology.

What you will be doing:
* You will be responsible for developing and delivering the Verification and Validation (V&V) programme for Future Product under guidance from the Chief Development Engineer. This includes integration of verification evidence across the programme to deliver a robust, validated product.
* You will establish appropriate R-E-D-V (Requirements, Design Rationale Evidence, Design Definition and Verification Information) structure that joins information across all areas involved (Customer, Business, System, Sub-System and Component) for the project.
* You will ensure sufficient rigor is put into requirements validation and verification to remove technical risk against product novelty.
* You will ensure R-E-D-V health data reports from Validation and Verification activities are used to drive the engineering programme schedule and to remove technical risk.
* You will define and deliver robust certification and qualification strategies.
* You will manage the creation of substantiation evidence, clearance/acceptance documentation that meets the demand for the project.
* You will extract Manufacturing/Installation/Test and Commissioning requirements from the engineering teams.
* You will work in close collaboration with Verification, Validation and Systems Engineering Capability Leads to understand existing capability and required capability development to deliver a robust V&V Programme.
* You will collaborate with other critical enablers work streams of the programme to ensure V&V approach is commensurate with other digital thread capabilities.
* You will develop engineering strategies for deployment of Major V&V infrastructure to support System level V&V of novel technologies in support of informed business cases and major programme decisions.
* You will work as a flexible member of the Chief Engineering Team, taking on additional responsibilities across adjacent to daily scope in line with individual interests and business needs as the programme matures.
Who we’re looking for:
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or science-based subject.
* Understanding of Verification and Validation in Engineering Systems and the role of a V&V within a complex Engineering programme.
* Knowledge of systems, sub-systems and components functionality.
* Experience of delivering structured verification programmes desirable.
* Experience in working within analytical or testing and simulation capabilities desirable.
* Evidence of working across multi-disciplined teams and projects, working flexibly both as an individual and closely with other team members.
* Good IT skills, experience with dedicated V&V and Systems Engineering software desirable (Including Model Based Systems Engineering and requirements management packages).
* Good interpersonal, time management and problem solving skills.
* Ability to work to Rolls-Royce company processes in order to ensure quality of output; and to Health, Safety and Environmental rules and legislation.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.
