HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Manager
Develop and implement a comprehensive HSE management system aligned with local regulations and international best practices (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
Establish annual HSE objectives, KPIs, and action plans to improve safety performance and minimize environmental impacts.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all project-related activities comply with European regulations, local laws, and industry standards (e.g., GWO, IMCA).
Monitor changes in legislation and update internal policies accordingly.
Conduct regular risk assessments and audits of offshore and onshore operations.
Implement preventive and corrective measures to mitigate identified hazards.
Work closely with project managers and engineering teams to incorporate HSE considerations in project planning and execution.
Develop and deliver HSE training programs, including induction, emergency response, and specialized offshore safety training.
Foster a proactive safety culture through regular toolbox talks, workshops, and safety campaigns.
Lead investigations of accidents, near-misses, and environmental incidents to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
Maintain accurate HSE records and prepare reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
Oversee HSE compliance of contractors and suppliers, ensuring they meet or exceed company standards.
Conduct HSE audits of vendor operations and collaborate on corrective action plans.
Track and analyze HSE performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Champion best practices and drive innovations that enhance health, safety, and environmental protection.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with internal teams (Project Management, Engineering, QA/QC) and external stakeholders (authorities, communities) to ensure transparent communication regarding HSE issues.
Represent the company in HSE-related forums, industry associations, and community events.
Qualifications and Experience
• Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
• Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent HSE certifications. GWO Basic Safety Training is highly desirable.
• 8+ years of progressive HSE experience in the energy sector, ideally in the offshore wind industry as an HSE professional. Oil & Gas experience accepted.
• Minimum of 3+ years in the offshore wind sector.
• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing HSE strategies and systems.
• Familiarity with relevant European HSE regulations (e.g., EU directives, local authority requirements).
• Proficiency with risk assessment tools and incident investigation methodologies.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
• Ability to build rapport across multidisciplinary teams and cultures.
Working Conditions
• Primarily office-based in the UK (Edinburgh or London) with frequent travel to manufacturing sites, China, and offshore locations for audits and inspections.
• Flexible working arrangements can be discussed for the right candidates.
• Must be willing to travel regularly and occasionally work in challenging offshore environments.
• Demonstrate flexibility to respond to emerging safety or environmental issues outside regular working hours.
