Remote vs. Office Hybrid (Remote/Office) Company Siemens Energy Limited Organization Grid Technologies Business Unit Grid Solutions Full / Part time Full-time Experience Level Not defined A Snapshot of your day In your role as HV Cable Design Engineer you will have responsibility for ensuring the quality and consistency of the team’s output, in areas such as the control of drawings and technical documents, and when required, support the actual delivery of these outputs. You will need to lead the production of project work through a robust checking process as well as the continued development of drawing office standards. Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities Experience in the production of designs, calculations, reports & drawings associated with the new or modified EHV projects from 11kV – 400kV covering EHV cabling. This will cover the production of bonding line diagrams and material specification lists etc, and calculations in areas such as, cable rating, induced voltage, short circuit force, thermo-mechanical thrust and pulling tension. Skills & Experience
4. Experience associated with technical specifications from clients such as National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, UKPN, WPD, ENWL, etc
5. Understanding of IEC & ENA standards
6. Proficient in software packages such as MathCAD, CYMCAP, COMSOL, etc
7. Background working in Design & HAZID (hazards in design) reviews
8. Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering and member of IET
9. Expert in cable system engineer, ideally with HVAC and HVDC systems
10. Analytical and able to tackle sophisticated engineering problems
11. A willingness to engage with new challenges as well as an ability to work confidently on tasks for which they have prior experience.
12. Ability to demonstrate good written communication skills including report writing.
13. Excellent communication and people skills.
14. You will be in a client facing role and will be expected to liaise with clients and contractors both on-site and over the phone, we regularly bid for projects all around the UK and Overseas. A prospective candidate should be prepared to undertake short-term site visits to meet with clients and contractors.
The candidate shall have experience in the following areas, delivering project cable system design requirements, including but not limited to;
15. Current ratings (IEC60287)
16. Impressed voltage calculations
17. Emergency, Cyclic & Short-term overload ratings
18. Cable crossing ratings
19. Producing Bonding diagrams
20. Producing Material Schedules & Technical specifications
21. Thermo-mechanical design calculation
22. Design Specific quality documents such as DID,DRR,DDL etc.
