Job Description
Our buildings don’t just shape our skylines — they provide the backdrop to our lives. And knowing they’re safe matters. We’ve been helping to create safer structures since 1894, combining our expertise with innovative new technologies to help make sure both people and property are secure. As more people have to deal with extreme weather, we’re on hand to test products and building materials to increasingly rigorous standards. Whether we’re simulating tornadoes or testing smoke alarms, the work we do on our team is used in buildings around the world to — quite literally — help save lives.
Our dynamic built environment engineering team in Telford is seeking a Project Engineer, where you'll play a crucial role in the certification of fenestration and cladding products for the UK market.
Responsibilities
1. As a Project Engineer, you are the glue that engages the customer and the UL Solutions' engineering teams together, ensuring the successful delivery of their testing projects.
2. Initially, you'll work with customers to determine project scope, develop a preliminary plan of investigation, and determine project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements.
3. Establish appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.
4. Coordinate laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of Laboratory Technicians and support staff and establishing completion dates.
5. Key to your success will be your ability to engage with customers, updating them on the testing phases, notifying them of any non-compliance with UL requirements and dealing with any issues the customer has.
6. You will organise and complete factory audits.
7. Create UL certification documentation.
8. Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
9. Provide technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
Qualifications
1. University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program.
2. At least two years certification experience.
3. Audit experience.
4. Working knowledge of relevant industry conformity standards relating to fenestration (windows) and our cladding would be a bonus.
5. Strong customer-focus and the ability to engage with customers and build solid relationships.
