This role is patient facing and is critically focused on patient experience, leading by example, motivating and empowering other staff. Matrons will be highly visible and accessible for patients, visitors and staff and will assist the Trust in achieving the strategic objectives.
Main duties of the job

Influence patient experience of care through clinical practice, clinical management and leadership, clinical governance, education, research, audit and professional activities.
Provide clinical leadership across the surgical wards and outpatient departments.
Provide line management for specified ward sisters and clinic nurse leads.
The post holder may be required to participate in the Trust's on call management rota.
The Matron will work with the Chief Nurse and corporate nursing team to support the delivery of quality initiatives across the Trust.

* Registered practitioner
* Evidence of further study at post registration level
* Evidence of successful management development
* Education to Masters level or equivalent experience
Experience

* Experience as a senior practitioner
* Experience of managing clinical teams and clinical risk
* Experience of managing a budget
* Awareness of role of audit and research
* Awareness of current developments in healthcare and professional nursing
Desirable
* Project management experience
