This position is being advertised to form a pipeline of candidates for future positions within Rolls-Royce Submarines based in our new office in Cardiff. Therefore, applicants should not expect feedback immediately. However, we will endeavour to review your CV in a timely manner.
Why Rolls-Royce?
Our Submarines business is currently expanding and opening a new Office based in Cardiff in which we are looking for Engineers across multiple engineering disciplines. As part of this, we are looking for a number of people with a strong background in Materials Engineering.
As a Materials Engineer, you will support the entire lifecycle, from design and manufacture to in-service support for the Nuclear Propulsion Plant. You will need to be driven and capable of owning and delivering technology development programmes. You will also need a good understanding of materials, corrosion, chemistry or NDE technology and be able to apply your technical knowledge to a range of problems.
Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.
We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum, we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you’ll be doing:
* Manage and deliver complex materials development programmes through the gated review processes.
* Effectively engage with engineers from all disciplines to understand material development requirements.
* Scope, develop and manage test programmes to demonstrate and validate a wide variety of material properties.
* Manage materials development programmes to meet cost, quality and delivery commitments.
* Analyse and interpret data from material property testing.
* Produce design guidance to describe materials performance under a range of complex loading conditions and in different operating environments, based on results from both testing programmes and literature.
Who we are looking for:
At Rolls-Royce, we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
* Preferably you will be educated to Degree level or equivalent in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related subject. It is also desirable to have relevant industrial experience in an engineering environment, ideally in relation to materials behaviour.
* You will be able to communicate effectively in written reports and presentations, to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.
* You will have demonstrable experience of producing high-quality technical documentation.
* You will be proficient in the use of standard PC-based software applications.
* Knowledge of the properties of nuclear fuel and cladding, stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, low-alloy steels, cobalt-based alloys and/or elastomers are all beneficial.
* Understanding of advanced manufacturing techniques would also be beneficial.
We’re an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
