We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our team. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist in the Children's Occupational Therapy service.
The post holder will work as part of a team to provide a high-quality occupational therapy service to children up to 19 years of age with difficulties in play, self-care, and/or school occupations due to a variety of conditions.
They will plan and provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, advice, and intervention for children with functional difficulties, working closely with the multidisciplinary team, school staff, and families.
The post holder will have experience and knowledge of equipment assessment and provision and working in Special School provisions.
The post holder will see children in various settings including the Phoenix Children’s Resource Centre, children’s homes, special school provisions, mainstream schools, and nurseries.
Interviews expected to be week commencing 19th May 2025.
Main duties of the job
1. To be responsible for a clinical caseload and to develop and provide a specialist paediatric occupational therapy service, undertaking assessment, interpretation of assessment results, evaluation, treatment, and advice.
2. To carry out assessments and evaluate the child’s occupational performance through the use of standardised and non-standardised assessments, observation, interview with parent or carer, and/or parent and teacher questionnaires.
3. To develop, plan and implement specialist Occupational Therapy treatment programmes and strategies to enhance the child’s ability to perform everyday activities and participate in multiple environments.
4. To assess the child's need for small aids and specialist equipment, advise and recommend/provide appropriate equipment for use at home, preschool, and school, in line with service criteria.

5. To review equipment and check size and suitability as required.
6. To work autonomously and without direct supervision in a defined clinical area.
Person specification
Training
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* Evidence of attendance at training in the area of assessment and treatment of children with functional needs
* Upper limb assessment / Interventions/splinting
* Relevant post registration specialist education – ideally sensory integration training levels 1 and 2
Qualifications
* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
* Member of the specialist section: children and young people (Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
Specific Skills
* To be able to independently manage a complex caseload within a community paediatric setting
* Ability to prioritise workload and own time effectively
* Excellent written communication skills
* Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
* Able to feedback regarding Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention
* Excellent working knowledge of child development and varying conditions
* Able to practise using an evidence-informed approach for assessments and intervention
* Current driving licence and have a vehicle to use for work
Experience
* Previous experience of working in community NHS Paediatric practice
* Experience in assessment, planning, and delivering occupation-focused intervention for children
* Experience of equipment prescription in the paediatric setting
* Experience in running training sessions for carers, clients, and other professionals
Information Technology
* Efficient computer user for all used programmes such as Microsoft Office, internet, email
* Knowledge of EMIS
