Senior Maintenance Technician
Location: Newport
Salary: £43k per annum
Full-time rotating double day shift
The Senior Maintenance Technician's role will carry out Facilities, Continuous Improvement, and maintenance activities at the local site, ensuring that the service supplied complies with all manufacturers', H&S, legal, and regulatory requirements. Ensuring that the service supplied is to the highest possible standard and fits with production/business requirements. The Senior Maintenance Technician will promote the use of best-practice maintenance system tools and techniques, ensuring they are applied in a safe and effective way. Must comply with all H&S requirements and benefit the company's performance in the areas of Quality, Cost, and Delivery. Actively supporting facilities and running continuous improvement and safety activities.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
1. Promote and ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees. Actively support the H&S committee and meetings associated with the site H&S policies and procedures.
2. Provide and oversee the maintenance/repair/routine service of the site's processes, services, and equipment in alignment with production and management needs.
3. Ensure all maintenance/service complies with all the legal, regulatory, and H&S requirements.
4. Support the production team in the application of TPM and PPM activities; ensure all activities are completed on time in line with the annual plan.
5. Ensure all paperwork completed in line with the maintenance process/system is accurate and legible.
6. Positively support and drive continuous improvement culture through the production areas with the maintenance team.
7. Support Risk Assessments and all H&S improvement activities and complete issues raised in a timely manner.
8. Recommend Capital investment projects to improve production/site performance.
9. Be responsive to support production needs for maintenance and repair in line with priorities set by the Maintenance Manager.
10. Support and conduct operator training as required.
11. Actively carry out continuous improvement activities/initiatives and Kaizen events to maximize productivity. Proactively identify and make recommendations for improvements.
12. Share experience, best practice, relaying all relevant knowledge and information with colleagues.
13. Demonstrate good housekeeping.
14. Actively support the new product introduction process from an engineering perspective. Attend meetings as required, source equipment/solutions, and conduct tests and trials/pre-production runs when required.
15. Be flexible in your approach to working to support production needs.
16. Any other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications - Minimum
1. Time served HNC/HND (Mechanical and Electrical) with practical engineering supervision (minimum 2 years) desirable in a manufacturing environment packaging/FMCG/automotive.
2. PLC and Pneumatics control experience essential - ability to design/modify/build software.
3. Practical approach to modern problem-solving tools and techniques.
4. NEBOSH/IOSH H&S qualifications and wide practical experience are desirable.
Qualifications - Desirable
1. Qualifications in Engineering minimum HNC/HND in electrical and mechanical engineering.
2. Wide knowledge/experience of mechanical/electrical PLC and Pneumatic systems, including programming.
3. 18th Edition wiring regulations.
4. NEBOSH H&S.
Minimum Skill Requirements
1. Engineering supervisory experience in a 'lean culture' manufacturing environment.
2. Several years' experience as a Maintenance/Facilities in a packaging/automotive/FMCG working environment.
3. Broad knowledge of equipment types: packaging and processing.
4. Continuous improvement techniques and tools (5S, Kaizen, etc.).
5. Awareness of modern technologies.
6. Effective communication skills and attitude.
7. PC literate.
8. Good communication skills and attitude.
9. Team player.
10. Flexible approach to work.
11. Competent and self-motivated.
12. Leadership skills - team motivator - problem solver/coaching skills.
Other Skills/Abilities Desirable
1. Result driven/change agent.
2. Ability to work under pressure to achieve tight delivery schedules.
3. Wide management maintenance/engineering experience in a selection of modern 'lean cultured' manufacturing environments.
