Brief Description
To act as the route controls tactical commander during major or significant incidents. To manage the delivery of the network taking a tactical lead for incident management ensuring a timely and robust response to incidents during perturbation. Work with the wider team to meet the differing needs of rail industry customers.
Lead and manage a team of controllers, identifying development opportunities and adhering to applicable competency management standards.
Please be aware this role holds a mandatory requirement for the incumbent to hold valid security vetting clearance. Any offer will be conditional on the successful candidate obtaining clearance prior to a start date being agreed.
About the role (External)
1. In the event of a major incident or severe disruption to the service, act as tactical commander for management of the incident, directing control and other response personnel, and accountable for asset rectification by escalation and co-ordination of resources.
2. Provide leadership and direction to the control team acting as a role model to improve the culture and capability of the Controller teams.
3. Lead the safe delivery of the daily train plan both during normal running and disruptive events and in the management of Very Short-Term Planning activity.
4. Lead the management of safety of the line incidents in accordance with safety standards and statutory requirements.
5. Lead the control team dissemination of safety critical and other information and introduce and maintain a system of recording operational safety and performance incident information in accordance with the relevant company standards, procedures and statutory requirements, to provide safety, performance and management reporting information at the required frequencies.
6. Support incident reviews by giving appropriate consideration to customer needs, Network Rail and train operators positions.
7. Contribute to development and maintenance of up to date operational and safety policies and procedures, relating to train service delivery, control of operations and line management.
8. Manage the integrity of sensitive operational and security documentation.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
* Experience of leading teams within a control, logistics or operations environment.
* Good negotiating skills and ability to make objective decisions.
* Able to manage conflict, influence others and work under pressure.
* Knowledge of Network Rail and Train Operating Companies within the Route and the key aspects of their business.
* Knowledge of Train Operator performance regime and targets.
* Understanding of operational rules and regulations.
* Good geographical knowledge of applicable Route.
Desirable
* Previous experience of working within a safety critical communications environment.
* Geographical knowledge of adjoining Routes.
* Line management experience.
