Step into a pivotal role within our Central HSE Leadership team, where your expertise will significantly impact the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices across our organization.
Site based location at Pilgrims Europe operational facility or office location Staines, Grantham or Rushmere.
As the Environmental Compliance Lead, you will be at the forefront of creating processes to monitor levels of compliance across trade effluent consent, operational permits and regulator engagement. You will carry out regular inspections, supporting on review and improvement plans for Environmental compliance and protection, enhancing on site controls and continual improvement of the sector whilst providing comprehensive support to our Business Units (BUs).
Key Responsibilities
· Assurance of Environmental controls are in place to ensure adherence to all licences, permits and operational standards.
· Develop a framework for the review of consents, permit requirements centrally to give in time reaction to challenges or risks to licence to operate compliance.
· Promote tools and ways of working to ensure sites either attain or maintain standards and recognition programs (I.E ISO 14001)
· Ensure that all aspects of Legal Compliance that may impact our people or harm our reputation are maintained and enhanced.
· In conjunction with Central HSE Leadership, ensure our Environmental compliance systems and procedures are to the correct standard and supply the necessary level of governance across our facilities.
· In conjunction with Central HSE Leadership, ensure the necessary controls and levels of protection are installed, maintained and enhanced across all our facilities to ensure our licence to operate is not compromised.
· Complete internal inspections of all facilities on a periodic basis, respond to requests for support, document internal inspections and audits and support the Central HSE function on both internal and external audit programs.
· Ensure a robust risk management framework and documented process of Assessments, standards and compliance measures are in place in connection to Environmental compliance.
· Provide guidance, support, advice and controls across all areas of Pilgrim’s Europe BUs and empower front line managers to ensure Environmental compliance is a Condition across all facilities.
· Support financial and capital planning/projects for Safety Compliance across all BUs and advise on correct standards of project management to fulfil or goals in a sustainable manner.
Key Deliverables
* Environmental compliance, including systems, equipment, and local risk/planning.
* Leadership, guidance, and support for Environmental compliance across all BUs.
* Environmental Licence to operate systems and processes (Risk assessment, Containment plans, impact investigations etc.) in place and maintained.
* Roll out of Go For Zero Strategy with Central HSE function (link to Go For Zero Environmental Impact)
* Provision of communication and campaigns in line with GFZ strategy.
* Compliance across all Environmental disciplines from a licence to operate perspective across all BUs.
Skills & Knowledge
* Experience in a FMCG Industry, preferably within an compliance setting within a HSE or environmental role.
* Understanding of Environmental permits, trade effluent agreements and experience in the control of associated Environmental systems and frameworks that ensure consistent compliance standards or during change management.
* Understanding of Environmental systems and equipment to control Environmental risk.
* Understanding of Audit standards and the ability to influence change through positive engagement.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels of site, external authorities and wider business leadership.
* Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
* IEMA Environnemental Management Certificate or equivalent qualification is essential
* NEBOSH General Certificate, Level 3, equivalent qualification or experience level desirable
* Experience in Environmental systems desirable
